Recently, Reddit user MrFreemanBBQ posted a leaked image detailing Steam's plans for the 2016 Summer Sale. Some of the information was in Russian, but was pretty much instantly translated. The supposed dates and times are set for June 23 at 9:45am PST - July 4 at 10:00am PST. The image gives no other information besides a warning to, of course, not share the news.
Text in four different colors. Pretty fancy.
This kind of news isn't exactly rare. In the past, there have been accurate leaks detailing Steam's inner workings. 2015 saw Paypal itself accidentally revealing sale dates ahead of time. It comes as no surprise, though, that this information is absolutely unverified and will continue to exist that way until the sale officially begins. As with all unverified leaks, this one should be taken with a heaping shovelful of salt.
Or a big ol' saltlick
However, how excited should we all really be for this news? I used to be a die hard Steam Sale fanatic. I even have the little clubhouse badges and Summer Sale trading cards. My library is at least 75% full of games I bought on these sales (and mostly never touched again). However, a lot of that excitement came to an end at the 2015 Winter Sale. That was when Steam's sale structure changed drastically. Originally, the tactic was to include new and higher discounts every day (or even every 8 hours). Honestly, this kept me hopping onto the sale as often as I could in order to find the newest goodies up for grabs. But last sale, they went safer: giving all sale items a consistent discount throughout the sale. I logged on once, saw what they had to offer, and remained unimpressed and uninterested for the rest of the event. Perhaps I am in the minority here. Regardless, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled on the 23rd, just in case.
