Rumor: Left 4 Dead 3 in Development, Set to Release Before Half-Life 3

Okay, it's best to take this with very minor grains of salt.

Hey, fun fact: It's been six whole years since Left 4 Dead 2. We've been hearing rumors forever about a third installment, but so far, nothing. According to Moviepilot, there are rumors that Left 4 Dead 3 is in development, as it would be released before Half-Life 3 because--let's face it--Half Life 3 is now some rumor conspiracy piece. Thanks to Master Herald, there has been a so-called "leaked report" from a former Valve employee.

Note that there's a very strong chance that this isn't true, but hey, it's a bit fun to read. Here are the highlights of the report:
  • Left 4 Dead 3 would be released in late 2016/early 2017
  • It would be a "prequel/sequel" (meaning "midquel"?), set one month after initial outbreak.
  • There will be six new campaigns: Crash-land, Impasse, Inquisitor Land, Early Destination, Cliff-Hanger & No Mercy. (Wait, isn't No Mercy... not... new?)
  • There are also four new survivors: gangstah Irvin, 24-year-old Katherine, comic-book nerd Keenan, and Kenpo fighter Garrett Jr.
  • There will be a backpack system where each character can only carry one specific item.
This same report also states that Valve is prioritising Left 4 Dead 3 over Half-Life 3, which is also somehow in development. Well, there is a chance that a third title could be in the works, because according to Chet Faliszek, Left 4 Dead writer:

"You know, some time down the road. Like anything, I would say that to all of our games. So that's not a promise of when or where... I really love working on that series. It's one of my favourite series. It's just so much fun with the characters and the world. I love zombies and I love horror. So, yeah."
