RUMOR: "Leaked" Snapchat Pictures Reveal Final Smash Roster

I think it's fake, but who knows?

When Super Smash Brothers Ultimate was announced, the creator, Masahiro Sakurai, made it clear that most of their efforts were towards refining the game and making sure all the old characters were back: and thus, we shouldn’t expect as many new fighters this time around. All that said, we’ve still seen a few new faces so far: Ridley, King K. Rool, Isabella… and there are likely still a few new faces on the way!

And while we don’t currently officially know who those figures are, if a snapchat album that claims to be from a French printing company that produces marketing materials is to be trusted, we might have an idea of what to expect.

The pictures in question show fighters in action poses and includes all the characters we’ve seen so far. However, it also includes Shadow the Hedgehog (which would be a logical echo fighter), Ken from Street Fighter (another logical echo fighter), Isaac from Golden Sun, Geno from Super Mario RPG, Chorus Kids from Rhythm Heaven, Banjo-Kazooie, and Mach Rider.

Some of those, like Shadow, Ken, and Banjo-Kazooie, are more-or-less believable, particularly as the former two would be easy echo fighters and because Microsoft has made it clear that they would welcome Banjo’s appearance in a Smash game. The others, particularly Geno (A character from a game that Nintendo and Square Enix sort of fought over), seem a bit more outlandish. This isn’t helped by the fact that the Smash Brothers series has long been bogged by bogus “leaks” that were just excellent photoshop.

All that said: the picture also included an employee’s name tag, which people were able to follow on Linkin to discover they were, in fact, a Namco Bandai employee. But that actually adds more salt, not less, as Nintendo has been in charge of marketing this game so far and there’s no reason for Namco Bandai to get involved now. And there’s the fact that if this was a real leak, that person would basically be committing career (and possibly financial) suicide when Nintendo brought their lawyers into play.

So with all those factors combined? I wouldn’t actually put much stock into this rumor. We’ve seen “leaks” like this before, there are holes in the story, and I have a hard time someone would leak this while also sharing their real name, putting their livelihood at risk.

But it sure is fun to get swept up in the drama, huh?
