Atlus is working with FuRyu to localize and release a role-playing video game titled Caligula, which will be released in Japan on June 23, 2016. But hooray for bringing another RPG to Western shores! We should be seeing the game sometime next year.
Unfortunately, not much is known at the moment, but what is known is the fact that it's set in a virtual reality high school school known as "Mobius" which is created so that people can escape the pain in their lives (i.e. one of the reasons why video gaming exists), and the name Caligula derives from the term "Caligula Effect," which basically refers to the want to see and do forbidden things. As for the protagonist, they realize they're in this VR world and form the "Going Home Club," which is a group dedicated to escaping Mobius and its vocal program overloard.
So, in a way, it sounds a little bit like Sword Art Online, doesn't it?
The game is directed by Takuya Yamanaka, the characters are designed by Oguchi, and the script is written by Tadashi Satomi, who worked on Revelations: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.
The game itself is defined as a "next-generation juvenile RPG" that focuses on the modern pathology and the idea of trauma.
Talk about deep.
Anyway, check out the trailer below for the game.
