Roguelike Space Grunts Explores Steam's Early Access Today

Roguelikes haven't been on the decline, per se, but the fad is passing. That's not to say that there aren't still plenty being released, oh no. Space Grunts is one such example of continuing the spirit of roguelikes but in the form of a strategy action RPG.

OrangePixel, known for Heroes of Loot and the Gunslugs series, is now launching into space with a fast-action, turn-based and tactical arcade shooter.

Set in 2476, Earth's space-federation has been constructing moon-bases across the galaxy, but one of the newer moon-bases has been sending out distress signals. As a team of tech support called "Space Grunts," you need to hit the moon, find out exactly what happened with the moon-base, and fix the problem.

Space Grunts offers three unique classes of Grunts, and each class features different weapons and items. However, to give it that roguelike flavor, perma-death and procedural generation will accompany you. However, besides having a space RPG theme to make this game unique in the roguelike category, daily challenges and leaderboards will bring about a competitive flair.

So far, 11/11 reviews have been positive, so it's safe to say that it's a worthy purchase. You can pick up Space Grunts, currently in Early Access on Steam for $9.99.
