Rocksteady Studios is known for one thing and one thing only: the Batman Arkham games. Sure, they also made Urban Chaos: Riot Response, but generally speaking it was Batman: Arkham Asylum that put them on the map, and the other games in the same series that kept them there. It’s been a while since their last game (the pretty meh Arkham VR back in 2016), but since they hadn’t shut down or started laying people off, most folks had assumed that they must have been working on something all this time.
Turns out, they have been. And in a very brief but still moderately revealing Twitter post, they’ve basically announced they’re working on a Suicide Squad game.
The reveal image in question is a picture of Superman with a Suicide Squad cross thing over his face, which is the header image for this article. So you’d think that this means you’re playing bad guys, but the whole point of the Suicide Squad is that they’re bad guys who are being forced to be good – if you scrapped that, you might as well just make a Legion of Doom game. So if they’re fighting Superman, we can assume this means that there’s some kind of even that turns Superman bad, like in the Injustice games. And if we’re fighting Superman, we’re probably fighting a bunch of other dudes from the DC universe too.
My money is on some kind of possession. You can see purple light coming out of his eyes if you zoom in real close. And generally speaking, purple light coming out of people's eyes is a bad thing.
As for how an ex-psychiatrist with a bat and a dude who can shoot things really good is supposed to beat up Superman, we don’t know. We don’t even know what genre the game will be, but given Rocksteady’s history, third-person brawler seems like a safe bet.
So yeah, that’s pretty much all we can infer from the announcement. There’s a date attached to the tweet, August 22, but we don’t know if that’s a release date or just when we’ll see a proper reveal.
Stay peeled I guess.
