Just when you thought it was milked for all its worth, a new method of monetization arrives to Grand Theft Auto 5. Introducing GTA+, a monthly premium subscription service.

Last Friday, Rockstar Games announced a new service they are going to offer called GTA+. Available for the PlayStation 5 and XBox Series S/X versions of GTA Online, it provides a variety of items, perks, and discounts in exchange for a monthly fee of $5.99. The perks listed for the first month are as follows.
  • $500,000 (in game cash) delivered automatically to your Maze Bank Account.
  • The Principe Deveste Eight along with a complimentary Haos Special Works upgrade for it before it is made available to purchase by the general public plus the HSW Orange Trip and HSW CMYK Glitch Liveries.
  • The Auto Shop located in La Mesa, introduces an assortment of gameplay updates from Los Santos Tuners. Current Auto Shop owners can relocate to La Mesa at no additional cost.
  • Waived LS Car Meet Membership fees. Current LS Car Meet members with GTA+ will be reimbursed GTA$50,000 during this event period.
  • Yacht owners can upgrade to the Aquarius Super Yacht at no additional cost.
  • The Gussét Frog Tee and Broker Prolaps Basketball Top and Shorts automatically added to your wardrobe.
  • The Conveyor Livery for the Mammoth Avenger, HVY APC, and TM-02 Khanjali.
  • A selection of free paints and emblems for the Auto Shop.
  • 3X GTA$ and RP on Haos Special Works Race Series.
  • 2X Car Meet Rep on the Street Race Series.
The service will go live on March 29 and will be found on the Xbox and PlayStation digital marketplaces.

For some reason, were surprised by this decision. We shouldnt be, really. Subscription-based services have been a popular trending in gaming the last several years, with things like Battle Passes and premium content. Weve seen it with Fortnite, with Halo, With Fallout, With Elder Scrolls. Its all over. And with GTAs history of being an otherwise money hungry machine, it makes sense that they would go for this, even if the game is 10 years old at this point.

But looking at this objectively, there can be value found. If youre someone that purchases microtransactions regularly from the GTA Shark Card system, then you get a better deal with this than with buying the in game money outright, not including the various free upgrades it offers. To that regard, were sure plenty of people will opt in for this system in the end.

Even so, we dont like it. GTAs monetization methods became a pit of greed years ago, and this only makes it worse.
