Rockstar Games to Release a Next-Gen Title This Fiscal Year

Will it be GTA V or Bully that makes the next-gen leap first?

'Tis the season of annual investor reports... for companies to count all the money they've made this year so their CEO's can swim around in it Scrooge McDuck style. Take-Two Interactive has a particularly full money vault this year thanks to Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto V- which has shipped 33 million copies to date; and as a whole the company had a net revenue of $2.35 Billion (yes with a "B") during the 2013/2014 fiscal year.

So in between patting themselves on the back for a job well done, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was quoted as saying-

We're excited about what [Rockstar] have in store for the new generation of systems this fiscal year

That means between now and March 2015 there will be a Rockstar game on either Xbox One or PlayStation 4. The likely assumption would be a next-gen port of Grand Theft Auto V, which has also yet to see a release on PC. This also comes on the heels of the discovery of a listing for a PC version of Red Dead Redemption on Microsoft's Windows Compatibility Center. It has been 4 years since that game was released on consoles, so either this is some kind of error or a very, very late port. This is however all happening right around the time that Microsoft is set to shut down their failed Games For Windows Live program... which is rumored to have a new program set to replace it later this year (which could have Red Dead Redemption as one of their key launch titles).

Another likely scenario has to do with a trademark Rockstar filed 5 months ago for Bully Bullworth Academy: Canis Canem Edit, which could be another HD remake of Bully from the sound of the title, or perhaps a new entry in the series. Rockstar typically does not have a presence at E3... but that's not to stop Sony or Microsoft making some kind of announcement of what this game might be that will be gracing their new systems within the next year.

If I were to guess... I'd say we'll see both the Bully title and GTA V.
