Your offline mods, in any case.

Hey, speaking of DRM, sometimes that also affects mods.

Perhaps the biggest recent bit of relevant news would be some recent complaints that a Dark Souls 2 mod for the PC, a mod that simply fixes a lot of glitches and issues that From seems to refuse to fix, is getting people soft-banned. But that’s not the only source of controversy at the moment, as there has been no shortage of PC gamers complaining that Rockstar games is handing out bans left and right for modding, both in GTA V and GTA Online.

Well, it seems Rockstar isn’t keen on these accusations, and in a recent Q&A Session, they addressed the issue upfront.

“We have always appreciated the creative efforts of the PC modding community and we still fondly remember the awesome zombie invasion mod and original GTA map mod for GTAIV PC among many other classics. To be clear, the modding policy in our license has not changed and is the same as for GTAIV. Recent updates to GTAV PC had an unintended effect of making unplayable certain single player modifications. This was not intentional, no one has been banned for using single player modifications, and you should not worry about being banned or being relegated to the cheater pool just for using single player PC mods.”

“Our primary focus is on protecting GTA Online against modifications that could give players an unfair advantage, disrupt gameplay, or cause griefing. It also bears mentioning that because game mods are by definition unauthorized, they may be broken by technical updates, cause instability, or affect your game in other unforeseen ways.”

It’s always cool to see a developer support mods, after certain others *ahem*EA*ahem* have such a strange, archaic stance on free, community created content that extends the lifespan of your game tenfold. Still, there’s reason to find that answer a bit suspicious, because there has to be some reason so many people are being banned.

Oh well. Still nice to hear.
