Scoring a goal in Rocket League isn't the most straightforward task. Wouldn't it be nice to have some help? Better yet, what if the ball just went to the goal on its own? Introducing Heatseeker, a new limited-time game mode.
In Heatseeker, two teams of three cars compete in a standard field. The ball, however, is a bit more automated than before. In this mode, the ball will automatically make its wait to the goal. Which goal? The scoring goal for whoever touched it last. And to keep things exciting, the ball gets a little faster with every bump.
This release is right on par with developer Psyonix's event methodology. Every so often, Psyonix releases a special game mode for a limited time. Some modes, like Hockey Puck, remained, while others, like Basketball, were stored in the Rocket League vault.
This mode is certainly an exciting idea, throwing off all sorts of mid to high-level play strategies like juggling and setting up shots. Instead, it becomes a game of "be the last to touch the ball," a common form of play for more casual or inexperienced players.
One concern we have for the mode is that it will encourage the entire team to camp around the goal instead of risking exposure for the sake of setting up a win.
Either way, we're excited to give Heakseeker a shot. It'll release to Rocket League on April 16, free for all players. But be quick, it'll go away after an undetermined amount of time.
