According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the popular multiplayer title by Psyonix will be entering the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta program, allowing PS4 players to play the game alongside players on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam PC.
This functionality will extend across all online game modes (Casual, Competitive, and Extra) and will be enabled by default. If you want to disable the feature, limiting your online experience with other PS4 players, you can do so in the Gameplay section of the Options menu.
While not yet available, Psyonix will be implementing cross-platform party support in an update later this year.
"In our first update this year (more information coming soon), we will release our cross-platform party system, which allows you to partner up with friends on any platform with the push of a few buttons.
Should you want to play with friends on other platforms before cross-platform parties release, however, you can! Just select Play from the Main Menu, then Private Match, followed by Create or Join Private Match, and youre set from there."
Cross-platform support has been one of the most requested features for Rocket League for an extremely long time. The simple controls and low barrier for entry mean that no platform would really have an edge over each other. To hear it join PlayStation Sony's cross-platform program is no surprise.
What's next? Minecraft cross-platform support?
