So. Rock Band 4 was released last year for the consoles, but that left PC gamers--not exactly the biggest market for the game, but certainly a sizeable one--high and dry. To address this, Harmonix started up a fig page for the PC development of Rock Band. That was a while ago, and since then, it’s raised a whooping $500,000 to the cause.
...Which would be great, except it’s asking for $1,500,000.
With the campaign ticking down to its final days (at time of writing we’re just shy of nine days left) Harmonix has decided to whip out the big guns, and has introduced a brand-new tier of backer to the campaign: and now, for as little as $2,500, you’ll not only get Rock Band 4 for the PC, you’ll also get every bit of DLC ever made for the game, or that will come out until the end of the year.
That’s right, $2,500. One hell of a season pass, aye?
In perhaps one of the best examples of “misunderstanding your audience”, Harmonix explained that this new tier of backer stems from the fact that DLC for consoles are exclusively for the consoles--and there were people who were expressing concern at the fact they won’t be able to bring their DLC library over to the PC version. So, to help those people out, they made this backer tier--so if you bought $30 worth of DLC, you can keep all that, and more, for the cost of a cheap used car, a fairly powerful PC rig, or around 27 real electrical guitars.
Now, I’ve been poking fun, but if you really are a rock band nut, this might be worth your time--the exact number of songs are indeterminate, but Harmonix estimates that there’ll be around 2,000 songs included in the package. So if you just can’t get enough Rock Band 4, then that’s a little more than a dollar per song.
At time of writing, exactly six people care enough about Rock Band 4 to donate to this tier, but there’s still time for you to join their lofty ranks--you’ve got eight days to do it!
...Assuming, of course, the game raises another million in that same period of time. Fingers crossed, amirite?
