Video games are known for outrageous crossovers. Though this news isn't actually about video games (don't tell my editor (Editor's Note: you may pass... this time)),  according to Oni Press and IDW Publishing, a Rick and Morty comic book, based on the world of Dungeons and Dragons, is currently in the works.

Officially titled "Rick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons," the publication will be co-written by fantasy novelist Patrick Rothfuss and D&D comic veteran Jim Zub, with art by Troy Little, the man behind Hunter S. Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The series will launch in August of this year.

Much like real life, the popular role-playing game has become the latest rage at Morty's high school. When he turns to his grandfather, Rick, to help understand how D&D works, his ambition leads to the entire Smith family being transported to a fantasy realm of dice-based adventure. Rothfuss spoke about his work towards the comic in an IDW press release:

I love Rick and Morty with a powerful love, and I've played D&D since the 5th grade. So when they approached me about writing a story with both of them together? That's some serious you-got-chocolate-in-my-peanut butter $#!& right there. I'm in. I'm all the way in. I'm gettin' that chocolate all up in the peanut butter. Like, deep in. All the way in. It's going to be sticky and delicious.

Zub expressed excitement for the project in the same press release:

The Dungeons & Dragons crew is letting Pat and I open a Pandora's Box of insane adventure material and iconic creatures from the granddaddy of all tabletop role-playing games. I wish I could say well take good care of it, but, the simple truth is, this is Rick and Morty we're talking about. No fantasy world or otherworldly plane of existence is safe.

If the humor in the comic book is on par with that of the show, then I look forward to its release.
