And equally unsurprising, it seems that Gearbox leadership isn’t exactly sweating bullets over this attack. In fact, Randy Pitchford recently tweeted that, if anything, this move from the fans made him even happier about their decision to leave Steam behind.
Ironically, that this misuse is possible and that Steam has no interest in correcting this misuse makes me kind of happy about 2k’s decision and makes me want to reconsider Gearbox Publishing’s current posture on the platform.
That’s fair… to a point. He has to realize that the only reason Borderlands isn’t being review-bombed on the Epic Game Store itself is that they don’t have user reviews implemented yet, which is part of the reasons fans dislike the platform so much. There are, indeed, a lot of community features that the Epic Game Store simply lacks, and having a CEO say he’s not exactly sad for that certainly comes off as more than a little bitter… especially when you consider he was the same guy who saw Aliens: Colonial Marines and thought “yeah, this is good. This is real good stuff."
Regardless. Money talks louder than any number of reviews, and we all already know Borderlands 3 will earn them more money than God, so what’s really the point.
