Respawn Devs Ban 355,000 Cheaters From Apex Legends

It's only been a month.

When a multiplayer game grows large enough, it faces a new complication. One that, if unchecked, will ruin the game. That challenge is cheaters.

If there's a multiplayer game, there are people that will glitch, hack, and do whatever they can to give themselves an unfair advantage. If this issue can't be handled effectively, the genuine, honest players will eventually leave.

That's why it's so nice to hear that in the first month of Apex Legends' release, developers Respawn Entertainment has banned over 355,000 cheaters online. Discovered on Reddit and reported by Haydn Taylor, the Respawn community manager confirmed the number and goes into light detail about how they intend to keep working at it.

"As of today, we've banned over 355K players on PC through Easy-Anti-Cheat. The service works but the fight against cheaters is an ongoing war that we'll need to continue to adapt to and be very vigilant about fighting. We take cheating very seriously and care deeply about the health of Apex Legends for all players.

We are working on improvements to combat cheaters and we're going to have to be pretty secretive about our plans. Cheaters are crafty and we don't want them to see us coming."

While they couldn't share too much, they did give some examples of how they are ramping up anti-cheat measures. This included working with "experts" in and out of EA, expanding their anti-cheat staff team, and adding more features to PC to help players report cheating more easily.

Keeping the Apex Legends community clean and cared for will be vital in keeping the game alive. It might not be as dramatic as when Bethesda asked cheaters to write an essay about why cheating is bad, but it's still good to hear. An effort like this is part of why the game is winning so hard.
