Resident Evil 8 Inspired by Resident Evil 4

In my article praising the latest new addition to the Resident Evil Rogue gallery, I pointed out that Resident Evil 8 looks as if it's got a lot in common with one of the most critically adored games in the series long history, Resident Evil 4. The similarities are fairly obvious: you travel to a remote European village, travel through a desecrated town to reach an ornate mansion, and fight differently-sized people in order to rescue someone who's been kidnapped.

Well, as it turns out, my suspicions were more than just that, as in a an interview with PlayStation Official Magazine, producer Peter Fabiano confirms that yes, Resident Evil 4 was a huge source of inspiration for their team. Here's him flat-out admitting it:

"You'll notice we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4. The team has put a ton of effort into creating a truly authentic feel. There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance of combat, exploration, and puzzle solving."

Of course, you can't have a chat with a Resident Evil developer and not bring up the flavor of the month, Lady Dimitrescu, the nine-foot-tall vampire woman that the internet collectively wants to step on them. Unfortunately, the producer didn't really comment on the thirst -- his statements were about as bog-standard as they come.
 

"Dimitrescu and her three daughters all harken back to what you might expect from vampire lore. We're not saying that's what they are, but there's certainly something that feels supernatural about what's going on... We don’t want to spoil too much of the story, but what I can say is that the creatures all fit within the context of Resident Evil’s world. We can assure you that Resident Evil Village takes into account the overall world and history of the series."

Yes, that's absolutely what people are thinking about when they look at the nine-foot tall boob vampire. Resident Evil lore. Great job reading the room there, Peter.
