And, as it turns out, perhaps not representative of the final product, either. Speaking with IGN about the playable demo, director Koushi Nakanishi had this to say:
"The teaser demo is a bespoke experience that isn’t just a slice of gameplay from the main game, kind of a tonal preview instead of a content preview... puzzle solving, resource management, and combat [are all] coming down the line. They’re all in there, but we’re focusing on horror has come home as a kind of theme for the teaser demo. So if you thought the games were going away from horror in previous years, this is just a statement of intent, purpose, to say it’s back."
Now, that's interesting: not only was this an 'incomplete' look at the final game (which makes sense), it's ALSO not even from the complete game. So it's possible, if unlikely, that this whole adventure into a haunted barn is just a little spin-off, and by no means ties into, or is even set, in the world of Resident Evil 7. The more I think about it, the more that makes sense, but since so many people are enraptured with this Demo, it seems like Capcom might be shooting itself in the foot if it ultimately strikes the demo out as "pointless".
But then, I could just be reading too much into things. We won't know more until the final game is launched January 24th of next year... or, if Capcom decides to share. Never know what's going to come out of them.
