Resident Evil 7 Looks Like PT

Resident Evil 7 has been announced. Check out the video:



If imitation is the best form of flattery, then Capcom couldn't have enough nice things to say about PT and Allison Road, as the trailer and gameplay for RE7 is DRIPPING with inspiration from Konami's last great pseudo-adventure into the world of video gaming. Cameras, tight corridors, first person perspective, ghosts and other spookies... it barley looks like a Resident Evil game at all.

Of course, the atmosphere is hurt a little by the sidekicks, but then, it wouldn't be a Resident Evil game if you ever felt isolated or defenseless. That said, Capcom did say it was trying to reinvent the franchise and "go back to their survival horror roots", and stripping away all of the action just might be a way to do that... and who knows, maybe those buddies of yours don't stay buddies for very long. There's a lot to unpack here.

Two things to note: for one, the game will be compatible with Sony's VR machine, you'll be able to experience this spooky house up close and personal. Strangely enough, even though the game will be released for PC, no word on if it'll be compatible for Vive or Oculus Rift. Second of all, a demo for the game has been released on the PSN store NOW, and you can try it out to see if it's anywhere near as memorable and scary as the game it's so clearly trying to emulate.

You'll have lots of time to explore the horrible new depths Capcom is trying to plumb come January 24, 2017, for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
