Report: Nintendo NX Primarily a Mobile System

To the surprise of not many people.

Nintendo might not be in the best shape right now, but at the very least, their prospects are good: their visibility is up, they have exciting new games coming soon, and even cooler, the Nintendo NX is just months away from being revealed from a public eager to see what Nintendo can do to change things around.

After all: The Nintendo 64 was successful, while the Gamecube was a flop. The Wii was a success, while the Wii U was a flop. So, logically, it stands to reason the Nintendo NX is going to be a huge hit, right?

Well, a new report out of Eurogamer, which cites several sources within the company, gives us a hint of what this new smash hit may look like. Specifically, they're saying it's going to be a handheld console with two detachable controllers that can optionally attach to a TV for big-screen play. The system will apparently have a docking system, where you can recharge the handheld console (which will have its own screen if you don't want to use a TV), and will use cartridges, rather than CD's, which is certainly an... interesting choice, but then, it's looking as if the NX is closer to a follow-up on the 3DS than the Wii U.

Finally, the report mentioned that graphical fidelity, as always, isn't Nintendo's primary concern, so it's likely this won't be a hardcore "back to basics" gaming console.

I suggest you read the report for more details, there's a lot of little details, but the gist of it is simple: a small device, that can do big-screen gaming, but otherwise designed for mobile play. Hm. Interesting.

Of course, these are simply reports, and could not be reflective of Nintendo's actual plan. We have no way of knowing until the big N makes it official, but... it certainly does sound like something they'd do, right?

So add salt, by all means, but not too much: this is a fairly likely situation...
