Reggie Fils-Aime: Wii U's State is Quite Strong

Because of the obvious: Software sells hardware.

Remember the Wii U's status a few years ago? How the sales were incredibly weak due to the launch of the software?

Since, the Wii U has turned around, generating quite a few sales thanks to certain releases.

Reggie Fils-Aime, CEO and President of Nintendo of America, has stated that "the state of the Wii U is quite strong," thanks to the hardware driven sales of Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Splatoon.

The trio of sales was determined as "a great one-two-three punch." It just goes to show that software is what makes the hardware. Nevertheless Nintendo is now focusing on releasing software on a more regular basis, all while innovating and bringing about more amiibo.

In a quote with GameSpot, Fils-Aime stated:

"The state of the Wii U is quite strong. The Wii U has had a strong year, and if you look back to just about a year ago to where we are today - Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Splatoon - what a great one-two-three punch."

"And so, we know that in this business software is what drives hardware, and as long as we focus to continually bring new software on that regular basis, we're going to continue to drive that installed base."

"The support we're getting from third-party continues to be there. The announcement that we made with Skylanders and Activision has been incredibly well-received. And so, for us it's about making the great content, launching great innovations like amiibo, and driving that forward."

It's rather odd that the statement "we know that in this business software is what drives hardware" appears, like it is just realized. Most gamers are always looking for great content in video games, but if the library isn't there, then there is no point in buying the hardware, right?

Here's the interview between GameSpot and Fils-Aime if you're curious:
