In the past, you had to rely mostly on luck to ruin your friendships in Mario Party. Thanks to a new dice feature in Super Mario Party and some hard math by Reddit user Trilerium, you can now use the power of averages to sow the seeds of hate.

In the most recent Mario Party adaption, players can choose between multiple different dice blocks to roll, based on your character. While the standard block will offer numbers one through six, these special blocks offer a different selection, altering the level of risk and reward in your roll. Some blocks even offer a positive or negative yield of coins to increase the gamble. For example: Peach's dice offers the numbers 0, 2, 4, 4, 4, and 6. Overall, you have a better chance of getting an above average roll, but at the risk of rolling a zero.

This has led many to wonder what the best alternative dice block there is, so that they can choose the best character for the job. Instead of just guessing, Reddit user Trilerium has created a Google Doc that breaks down each dice option into a list of variances and deviations.

The chart contains four analysis columns, Mean, Variance, Standard Deviation, and Mean Coins. The very bottom item on the list is your standard dice block, with everyone listing their roll numbers above it. The yellow cells indicate a coin reward roll.

Those with the highest mean have the best chance of traveling far. This includes Boo, Bowser, and Wario. Though you'll notice all three also come with the highest coin-loss risk. Alternatively, if winning coins if your game, then Donkey Kong, Goomba, and Rosalina all yield the greatest coin rewards. Of course, they also come with some of the lowest distance roll means.

I can always appreciate some good, ol' fashion math, especially when it's on something as small like this. Super Mario Party is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
