Redbox is Selling Off Its Video Game Stock at a Discount

And ending their video game rentals, of course.

Redbox, the popular automated movie rental service, has given up on renting video games. And to recoup any losses, the company is selling its video games at some pretty good discounts.

Recently appearing on the Redbox website is a portal for purchasing the used game copies that they were previously renting out. The games are for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, with titles like Death Stranding, Marvel's Spider-Man, and Super Mario Maker 2, all for $25 at most.

There are three catches to this bargain.
  • The games are considered used copies. Which should be obvious
  • The games do not come with the original game boxes. They come with the red jewel case that Redbox always uses. You'll have to provide your own game case or purchase a new case online. We hear that eBay has a bunch.
  • They have a limited supply. Once they're out, they're out.
It's a shame to hear that Redbox is dropping its game program. But considering the fate of Best Buy and GameFly, there really isn't a market for physical game rentals, it seems. But hey, at least we get some good deals.
