All good things, however, must come to an end… sometimes sooner than others. And the return of Red Dead Redemption is no exception, as the game has now been removed and cannot be played on the Xbox One.
Why? Excellent question--I’ll let Microsoft’s Larry Hryb, aka "Major Nelson," explain it to you.
Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles. Due to an error, some of the games currently in test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon.
So Red Dead Redemption got no fanfare because it was all one big mistake. Well, that’s sad. Still, I didn’t hear anyone complaining about it not working, so, perhaps it would have been better to just leave it up? I suppose it’s better to be safe than sorry, but… well, if nothing else, we know what to look forward too now.
Our trip down memory lane will have to wait for some time in the indeterminate future.
