Red Ash Getting Another Crowdfunding Campaign. Not Kidding.

And the world groaned as one.

…This is the kind of thing you just can’t make up.

So Mighty No. Nine developer Comcept and their founder Keiji Inafune decided to run another kickstarter before finishing their first one, for Red Ash—both for an anime and a game. The game Kickstarter failed, which was meaningless cuz it’s going to be published anyway with the help of a publisher, but the anime one succeeded, raising $162,882 for a twelve-minute short set in the same “universe” (kind of) as the game. It was more of an annoyance than a controversy, and the hope was that the outrage it inspired from fans would serve as a nice wake-up call for Keiji Inafune to stop abusing crowdfunding and just start delivering what he promised already.

But if that was supposed to be a wake-up call, Keiji must be a pretty damn deep sleeperbecause he’s started ANOTHER crowdfunding campaign.

Ugh.

So this new crowdfunding campaign isn’t happening over Kickstarter: rather, it’s being held on Studio4Fun’s website, which is the same company working with Comcept to produce the anime. This campaign looks to raise a grand total of 127,118 bucks to extend the 13 minute anime to a full 30 minute one.

It’s got a full 60 days to raise the money and so far, two days in, it’s raised a refreshing 28 bucks.

Given the history behind this IP and the resentment Red Ash has fostered, I’d be astonished if this raised even half the amount being asked for by the end of the 60 days. But, odder things have happened, I suppose. We’ll just have to see how this plays out… or what corporate entity will be ensuring that the 30 minute episodes happen anyway.
