Let's just make the robots do all the work.

While the ReCore trailer launched during Microsoft's conference, we didn't get a taste of the details until afterwards. The game was designed in a retro style: easy to pick up but hard to master. Players take control of Joule who in turn controls her robot pals. The robotic companions come in the form of three different cores that be installed into separate bodies. Both each core and each body type have their own special characteristics and properties. More than that, these friendly robot cores can level up if Joule combines them with enemy cores she's harvested. Joule can strip cores out of certain enemies with grappling hook-style device called the Extractor.

But can the robots love? That's the real question

Aside from her kick ass companions, Joule also has a rifle and gear that can be upgraded. The information is a little lacking at the moment, but a crafting system has also been confirmed. The gameplay follows a story involving a terraforming gone bad. The style would be considered action platformer with adventure elements, including dungeons. Combat can be hectic with lots of momentum. There is a purposeful lack of cover, forcing players to be agile to stay alive. This will especially be true with tougher enemies, such as bosses. An enemy ability to switch cores mid-fight to change tactics has also been confirmed.

ReCore is shaping up to be a solid action game. If robot mayhem is your style, check it out on September 13 on Xbox One and Windows 10 (part of that whole cross-buy thing).
