Chess is a classic board game that's been on pretty much every electronic device. I'm surprised microwaves aren't set up to play a match while cooking up a Hungry Man dinner. The game is a standard. Unfortunately, that also means that it doesn't really vary that much. Regardless of what version and what device you're using, it's the same game. Most of the time, any changes would be cosmetic at best. Now, though, iPhone users can play Chess with a twist. Zach Gage (the mind behind SpellTower, Sage Solitaire, and others) has released Really Bad Chess.
Behold, the battle of the knights!
The big change with Really Bad Chess is that it gives each side a random assortment of pieces. There's no telling which pieces you'll be getting. You also have no idea which pieces your AI opponent will have against you. This means a couple of things. First, each game will be wildly different. It's nearly impossible to create consistent strategy when you're not even sure if you'll have a rook this time around. Secondly, of course, this means that different games will give different advantages. There's no getting around that. One side is destined to have more favorable pieces than the other. However, that's part of the point of Really Bad Chess. It's meant to be a fun and intriguing look at Chess. And, more than anything, it looks to be the most creative Chess I've seen lately. If you're interested, check out Really Bad Chess on the iOS App Store.
