Unveiled last April, the Razer Store offered a variety of games for sale in the form of Steam and uPlay keys. It also would reward buyers with discounts toward various Razer hardware.
The discounts must not have been enough, though. The store will shut down on February 28, 2019. Games purchased through the store will still function after the closure, but Razer advises consumers to redeem any keys they've purchased before the date listed. They also state that pre-ordered games will still be honored.
Razer had this to say:
"It has been a privilege for us to recommend and deliver great digital game deals to you. We have been extremely fortunate to have you as part of our awesome community. Thank you for the support and making all this possible."
According to the company, the shutdown isn't about whether the store was a success or not. They claim that it's part of their "realignment plans." They plan on investing more time and resources toward their Razer Gold virtual currency system, which can be redeemed for discounts instead.
With major names in games rising up to compete with Steam, such as Discord, Kongregate, and most notably, Epic Games, it makes sense that some of the less popular storefronts may fall further to the wayside.
Shame, really. I thought the Razer Store was better than when they asked you to let them mine crypto on your computer.
