Ray Rice Being Removed from Madden 2015

Seems like a innappropriate time for a LL Cool J reference.

So not to play into stereotypes or anything, but I’m not a huge fan of football.  It’s fun to watch with friends and family on occasion and I watch the Superbowl for obvious reasons but I don’t keep up with it at all.  I don’t know the athletes, I don’t know the names of the teams too good, I don’t play the game, and above all else I’ve never bought a Madden title.  I mean, I’ve played Madden, I ‘get’ it, but I’ve never spent any money on it.

Still, a lack of personal interest doesn’t mean it’s not worth reporting on, especially when something this big happens.  To those of you who DO keep up with the sport, you probably know the name Ray Rice—the former Runningback for the Baltimore Ravens—was recently in quite the kerfuffle when it was discovered he was a horrible human being via a leaked video of him punching his wife in an Atlanta hotel.

Following said kerfuffle, he’s been released by his team and suspended indefinably in the NFL, but his disgrace doesn’t stop there: EA also announced today that in a patch this week, he will be permanently removed from Madden 2015 roster—both for the sake of authenticity and because he really doesn’t deserve to be in the game.

This isn’t the first time EA has done this: when Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was indicted for murder, he was removed from the game as well.

Of course, this is pretty much the only time EA could remove a feature from a game and be praised for it, so, relish the moment--like all things, it will pass too soon.
