Raptr Now Allows Game Streaming

Like Twitch, but different

With the Twitch buyout from Youtube, there’s been a growing concern that the video games streaming market will soon be cornered by some kind of E-sports monopoly, run by the enigmatic and not entirely ‘good’ people over at Google.   There’s still some competition to Twtich with Azubu and inSTAGIB, but when you think about game streaming—be it professional Starcraft II or League of Legends or Call of Duty, chances are you think of Twitch first thing.

But still, more competition is always good, and this competitor just might be what capitalism called for: Raptr, the social networking site for gamers, is introducing both Streaming and recording onto it’s website, so people playing on their PC’s can offer livestreams and full-featured videos of their exploits to fans and friends over facebook and twitter.

Slow news?  You bet, but it’s the day after Comic-Con, what more are you expecting?

Anyway, it’s pretty straightforward.  Streaming works just like any other site, except it’s on Raptr.  The recording allows you to keep the last 20 minutes of your gaming session saved at any given time, which can be extracted, edited, and uploaded at your leisure.  The catch, though, is that you have to have either AMD or Nvidia hardware to take advantage of it.

Mind you, that means you have about 5,100+ titles compatible with the service, so that’s pretty good.

It’s not exactly revolutionary, especially compared to all the geeky news coming out of Comic-Con that doesn’t really belong on this site, but hey—if you were looking for another way to not give Twitch your support, this would be a great way to do that, hypothetical spiteful reader.
