Many games have now taken on loot boxes and implemented them in different ways. Whether it's per level like in Overwatch, purchased with in-game currency like PUBG, or purchased with real money like Rocket League and CS:GO, loot boxes are everywhere. It looks like Rainbow Six Siege isn't shying away from the competition either.

The new update that is coming out today will be laying the foundation for their new loot boxes, called Alpha Packs. These packs contain cosmetic items, as well as some legendary-tier drops. It's still unconfirmed when the Alpha Packs will be available, but they will even offer some of the older items, like the Black Ice skins, when they release.

In addition to the new loot box system, some minor changes have been made. More cover has been added to the Kanal map, preventing defenders from spawn trapping the attackers. They also opened a window in the control room on the map, giving defenders a new way to attack. On Coastline, some walls were completely reconstructed, allowing them to be destroyed properly throughout gameplay.
