It only took two years but today marks a big day for the devs behind Rainbow 6 Siege. Right after the release of Operation Chimera the patch that added a new temporary Outbreak game mode as well some new operators and the start of season 3. The player base seemed to make a huge increase since last we checked, so much of a come back that some server issues were reported. This isn't to say that there hasn't always been a player base behind this game but to see a game grow so much after it launched over 2 years ago is incredible. The game's Year Three Pass was even number two on the Steam leader board for purchases and it isn't easy to break that barrier when half of your player base isn't playing through Steam. According to Steam's player data the game hit over 176,000 concurrent players today that is almost 45,000 more than it hit this time last year.
Another bit of good news that came out with this record is that Ubisoft is going to be handing out bans for players using hate speech on the PC version. This is due to some less than favorable culture around the PC version of the game and the desire to increase the quality of life for players. Hopefully the quality of life for this game keeps on keeping on because we have a while to go before we reach the Ubisoft goal of 100 playable operators that was also announced recently; only 42 to go!
