Super Meat Boy's multiplayer race mode has released on Steam, with the Humble Store getting the same treatment shortly thereafter.
The announcement was made on the official Super Meat Boy Twitter account early Wednesday morning. It featured an old boxing match poster-style graphic of two meat boys against each other for RACE MODE. The post was captioned with "Maybe check out Steam tomorrow..."
Since then, new DLC for the Steam game has appeared on the Steam marketplace called Super Meat Boy: Race Mode for $5. This introduces a new, multiplayer mechanic. Two local players (Not online) compete at the same level, racing to see who can complete it first.
Super Meat Boy is a popular platformer by Edmund McMillen, creator of Binding of Isaac. The game is one of the most familiar indie titles of all time, known for it's challenging and fast-paced puzzle platforming techniques.
Race Mode was first seen in the Nintendo Switch port of the game, which offered the same options using two different Joycons. Whether or not the feature will make its way to other console variations of the game remains unknown.
Super Meat Boy is available on Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, and Nintendo Switch. The DLC is available for the Steam version for $5 and is part of the Nintendo Switch version already.
