Quake Champions, the recent revitalization of the classic game by id Software, has a new kind of foe on the way. We don't mean a different character but in-game bots. According to a developer video, players will soon be able to practice against bots or have an incomplete room filled with bots.
In the video, viewable below, technical director John Dean details the functionality of these bots. They'll be able to do everything a player can, including trick and strafe jumps. There will also be a difficulty slider for players wanting to control the experience. At their lowest setting, they'll intentionally avoid powerful weapons and powerups. This is so that new players have a chance to learn how to use these items. Regardless of difficulty level, the bots are designed not to interfere with the human players. If a bot sees a player going for a specific item, it will then choose to avoid said item.
The bots will come in two waves, which sounds far more menacing than it really is. In the first wave, bots can use all champions and weapons, but not abilities. They can also be used in a limited selection of game modes, such as team deathmatch. In the second wave, the bots will be able to use champion abilities and will be available in more game modes.
No word on if bots will be available offline.
