Pychonauts 2 Release Date Delayed Until 2020

Possibly related to Microsoft taking over Double Fine.

It was a welcome surprise when Microsoft announced that they will be taking in Double Fine Productions under the Xbox Game Studios family. The announcement even came with a new trailer for the long-awaited Psychonauts 2. Too bad it won't release until 2020.

The release window was announced in part of a press release. This conflicts with the previous goal of 2019. But with little information about the game and 2019 just about half over, a delay was to be expected. That suspicion was only reinforced when the E3 trailer lacked any kind of date.

Still, we see this as a good thing. Microsoft has a track record for being a helpful and supportive company toward their developers. This delay means they will have all the time and funding they need to create a worthwhile and enjoyable sequel.

Psychonauts 2 will follow the protagonist from the first game, Razputin. Now a fully fledged psychonaut, he must travel into the subconscious minds of various NPCs and survive in the distorted world of their psyche. He's looking pretty snazzy in that new suit, too.

Psychonauts 2 will be available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in 2020.
