Publishers Remove Their Games From The Epic Game Store to Avoid Mega Sale

Most notably, Borderlands 3.

A number of games have been removed from the Epic Game Store during their "Mega-Sale."

Epic launched their first Mega-Sale, which gave absolutely everyone a $10 discount on any game costing more than $15. Not long after this, games like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, Oxygen Not Included, and even Borderlands 3 have been removed from the store entirely, seemingly to avoid this sale.

All of this stinks of strange. The developers/publishers have not issued statements explaining exactly why they're doing this. Epic states that the discount is "courtesy of Epic," But if that was the case, the developers wouldn't want to pull their games. This implies that the developers are the ones losing out on potential revenue.

Some speculate that the 10 dollar value is set to 10, regardless of currency, so various users are spoofing their location to a place where 10 dollars is more than where they live (compare the Peso to the USD, for example). This would mean that the potential revenue loss is even greater in these areas.

A 2k representative spoke with Eurogamer, stating that they have done so intentionally, and it will be returning after:

"We are working closely with Epic and have temporarily removed Borderlands 3 from their storefront. We look forward to the game being back on the Epic Games store soon. Games bought during their Mega Sale will be honored at that price."

This is all strange to me. It seems like Epic failed to communicate their sale intentions with publishers and we're seeing the result of that. Either way, things will return to normal after the sale is over.
