It's a Halloween miracle. Game publisher Gun Media has announced Project Méliès, also known as Layers of Fear 2.
Gun Media posted a video earlier to YouTube titled "Project Méliès - The Reveal." Running a little over a minute long, we get a glimpse a late 1869's house as it slowly falls to impossible horrors. The sequel to the popular psychological horror game from 2016, Layers of Fear 2 returns to the mind of an artist. Though instead of madness gripping over a paintbrush, it's a film reel.
In the original Layers of Fear, the game revolved around the mental struggles of an artist after his wife was disfigured in a department store fire. Paint and paintings were a recurring theme within the game. The game had quickly risen up in the horror game scene for its potent scares and high-quality environment and narrative.
Layers of Fear 2 appears to also follow in the same vein of artistic creation, though with film instead of paint. The reveal trailer shows a number of film-related settings and items. The name, Project Méliès, may also be in reference to Georges Méliès, a French illusionist and film director. He is commonly considered a major influence in the technical and narrative development of early cinema.
No release date, platform availability, or price has been stated at this time. Stay tuned for more information.
