And yet, in an interview with Inven Global, PUBG Corporation CEO Chang Han Kim started talking about how much he’d like to see PUBG become a mutli-media franchise. Of course.
"I’d like PUBG to become a universal media franchise based on the game. We want to take part in diverse industries including esports, movies, drama, cartoons, animation, and more. In fact, we received a couple of love calls from a number of developers in Hollywood and Netflix. Our dream is to build a new game-based culture through various ways like this, and have the lead of that culture."
…okay, I could maybe see a movie happen, in so far that they’ve already made a Battle Royale movie and all you’d have to do is swap the Japanese Schoolchildren with adults rocking weird usernames. That’s in the realm of possibility, for however uninspired it would be. But a cartoon? Look I get that PUBG is popular with the kids these days but I’m not sure how you’d pitch that to Disney.
Maybe I just lack the imagination/unmitigated greed to see the possibilities. Either way, it seems likely we’ll be seeing at least some of this happen, given the unprecedented popularity of the game. And since the developer doesn’t really have much else on its plate (except maybe that MMORPG that most people aren’t excited for) I can see why they’d want to milk this cash cow while it’s still good for it.
Just as the Angry Bird guys how well that worked for them, though.
