If you recall, PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds was last in the news this Monday when its review scores were driven to the ground by Chinese gamers who were miffed that the game had the audacity to have in-game ads for a VPN that would fix the connectivity problems that the studio should have been fixing for free.

Well, two days later, the review score hasnt improved, and the studio is starting to feel the heat of its angry players. Thus, today, they released an official statement apologizing for the problem and swearing to fix it ASAP.

"First of all, we would like to sincerely apologize to everyone for the recent server issues which resulted in long waits and any inconveniences. Our development team has been continuously upgrading the service architecture to address the increasing concurrent player numbers and tackle any emerging issues. Despite our daily efforts, there were some unexpected issues during peak times and we were unable to resolve some of the issues as fast as we would have wanted to."

It makes sense. People forget that the game started as an indie title (hence the weird name), and that the small studio behind it might not be exactly prepared for the massive influx of popularity its since received. And setting up servers, especially in China and its insane internet laws, aint easy. Up until now, theyve been using cloud-based servers, but as we hit a new high in concurrent users (1.7 million just the other day) its obvious that aint gonna cut it anymore.

Theyve promised to double down on their efforts to make sure everyone around the world can play whenever they want, wherever they are. Which is nice, but it doesnt address the whole ad thing that kick-started this whole mess, so well have to see if they really intend to follow through.

Heres hoping they do.
