The bigger the toy, the more people are gonna wanna ruin them, and youd have a hard time finding a bigger toy than PUBG at this exact moment. The game is still stupid popular even with competition finally showing up on the scene to try to dethrone it, which means theres obviously going to be a lot of people who would be willing to pay big bucks to get a huge advantage over their competition by way of cheats. Developer Bluehole has been fighting a back-and-forth battle with hackers for a long time now, but unfortunately, their latest weapon against them has been backfiring in a pretty major way.

PC players, we are aware of a detection logic related bug that occurred after today's anti-cheat update and is temporarily preventing some players from accessing our game. Please accept our apologies. We are working on a fix as fast as we can.

Yep, a new update to the anti-cheating engine messed the whole thing up, causing random players who hadnt done anything wrong to get a swift and terrible punishment they didnt deserve. From what Ive been able to find, there was nothing in particular that would trigger getting flagged by the system: it was just a matter of bad luck that would get you booted.

Fortunately, Bluehole has acknowledged the problem and many players on the subreddit have reported that theyve already had their ban reversed, so if youre one of the unlucky souls who received unfair punishment, theres a better than good chance youll be able to play again before long. So while that problem will likely be fixed, the fact that the game is still absolutely mired with cheaters is still very much a problem, and it seems unlikely that Bluehole is any closer to finding the silver bullet they need to fix the problem for good.

But hey. At least this was exciting.
