PUBG Adding Weapon Skins and Considering Regional Servers

That would make a lot of players very happy.

Speaking of Fortnite: dethroned king of Battle Royale's PUBG has been trying hard over the past few weeks to reclaim its top spot, but its been having a rough time of it. Not only does it have to compete with a more enticing price tag (being free), but it also has a problem with the fact that its servers appear to be slower, the game is laggier and buggier, and of course, theres the issue of the ever-present hackers and cheaters, which seem to predominantly be coming from China. As a result of this, a popular rallying cry for people who are still loyal to PUBG is region lock China, an idea that was laughed off by PUBGs creators earlier, but on a Steam Community update post, seems to be gaining traction in the company.

"One of the solutions we are considering is operating servers so that only those players who reside in that region can connect and play. These servers will be made invisible to players residing in other regions. But, at the same time, if a player in an exclusive server region forms a team with a player from another region, they can connect to and play on any of the servers available to either of them."

Also mentioned in the update were new weapon skins, which can either be picked up via Triumph Crates, which requires real-world money to crack open, or free-of-charge in Raider crates. Once you equip a skin, any weapon you pick up in the game will automatically equip the skin presumably even if you drop it, based on the way its worded. You can switch between the base and improved skin in-game, which might be frugal if you want to switch weapons without showing another player that youd already been through that area.

Either way, you can read more about both on the Steam discussion post. Will it be enough to win back lost gamers? Probably not. But it will be interesting to see how quickly players latch on to the region-locked servers. My guess: incredibly quickly. But I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again.
