PT Lives on in Allison Road

Like any good horror monster, nothing can keep it down...

PT’s dead. Konami killed it, it’s not coming back, and if you don’t already have it you have almost no hope of getting it. Silent Hills, the game it was supposed to advertise, has been killed, and thus horror enthusiasts and Silent Hill fans everywhere have wept bitter tears. For a while, we had thought that was the end of the story, but… time and time again, we’ve seen that when fans like something well enough, they’ll go to insane lengths to see it preserved.

Let me introduce you to Allison Road.

While obviously not PT, it’s equally obvious that it took some heavy inspiration from the game—going so far as to reference it three times (by my count) through the thirteen minute gameplay trailer. And even without the references—the gameplay, the photorealistic house, the creepy ghost girl… they all scream “PT”. And while the voice-over does an excellent job of making it less scary, it looks like it could still be a hell of a ride, when it’s all finished.

Much like PT, this gameplay footage isn’t taken from the full game—according to the developers, it’s separate to avoid spoiling any of the story. But they assured us that the gameplay and the mechanics would remain unchanged… perhaps a new demon girl, as well? Hard to know. The official description:

You will take on the role of the unnamed protagonist who wakes up one day without any recollection of prior events.

Over the course of five nights, it is your objective to uncover the whereabouts of your family, unravel the mysteries of the house, and face off against [dark entities] that are nested deep within the house, while the clock is relentlessly ticking towards 3:00am.

What would you do if you could feel something stalking you in the dark in the safety of your own home?

If you couldn’t tell what’s real and what’s not?

Ah. So there’s even some Five Nights at Freddy thrown into the mix as well. I can see this being a game I’ll never, ever play in my entire life… and for horror fans, that’s a good sign! I mean, I gave myself a scare twice now, and all I’ve been doing is research for this article! Although that’s perhaps less a sign of how good the game is and more a sign of what a gigantic wimp I am, but… still.
