The long-awaited sequel to Psychonauts has been delayed farther than previously planned. Developer Double Fine Productions announced the delay in a dev blog for the game. They confirm that Psychonauts 2 will not be coming out in Q3 2018, and to expect 2019 at the earliest.

After much consideration, they decided that it would be better to push back the game's release to ensure the quality of the game. No word on when it will be done.

Project lead Zak McClendon had this to say:

We do know about how long its going to take but we dont want to say anything until we have a firm date for people. We want to give it time to make it something that we love and that the fans love and continues the legacy of Psychonauts 1 in a real meaningful and special way.

Aside from the bad news, Double Fine announced some details about the family members of the protagonist's family. They also detail some art and behind the scene action.

We've been hearing about Psychonauts 2 since December of 2015 and was successfully crowdfunded via the FIG platform. The game is a sequel to the mind invading 3D platformer from 2005.
