PS4 Update Is Mandatory Without Saying Why

Gotta love vague change logs.

Another update to the PlayStation 4 is here, though it's vague and otherwise inconvenient. Version 5.55 is here, and it's mandatory. The update provides little information as to what is being changed, listing "This system software update improves system performance" as the entire list of changes on the official blog post by Sony.

Being a mandatory update, access to various online features will be disabled, like multiplayer connectivity, PSN friends interaction, and access to the PlayStation Marketplace. If you weren't prompted to update automatically, you can do so by navigating to the System Software Update section of the Settings menu.

This update follows the version 5.50 patch, which released two months prior. This update was more content heavy, introducing organizational features, additional parental controls, a new supersampling option for PS4 Pro, and more.

Given the mandatory nature of the update, it's presumed that this resolves a critical or dangerous exploit that was accidentally introduced in the previous update.
