If you’re a fan of fighting games, Capcom, or funny youtube videos of glitch gameplay, then you’ve probably become intimately aware of the hilariously awful Ultra Street Fighter IV port for the Playstation 4. If you can imagine it, the game has that problem: it’s laggy, it jumps and stutters, its got bugs and glitches, it’s been poorly interfaced, the text hasn’t been update, some moves have been crippled, audio errors… it’s a mess. Capcom and Sony alike have promised to address the issues, but that doesn’t change the fact that the latest (and what was supposed to be the greatest) is crippled… just in time for EVO 2015.
For those unaware, EVO is the biggest fighting game tournament on this side of the solar system, with hundreds of battlers coming from around the globe to battle in just about every fighting game you could imagine—with Super Smash Brothers Melee and Street Fighter IV being the real stars of the show. Ultra Street Fighter IV’s bugs and glitches were bad enough as is—but the fear that those bugs and glitches would ruin tournament play was profound.
Fortunately, it seems the folks at EVO aren’t interested in taking chances. Despite promises that it’ll be fixed, EVO’s own Joey Cuellar has gone to twitter to assure fans that this year’s EVO will host Ultra Street Fighter IV on the reliable Xbox 360, rather than the buggy PS4 port.
A blow against Sony, who probably wanted to show off the game at this year’s EVO, but good news for fans. The Xbox 360 version was the version used by EVO in years past, so they’ll be comfortable with it, and almost guaranteed a tournament free of glitches, lag, and other annoyances.
Still, improved graphics would have looked rather swell. At least so it could keep up with Mortal Kombat X.
