Sony remains vague.

As the next generation of game consoles grows ever closer, so does tension over some unanswered questions. But AAA developer Ubisoft might have shed some light on these questions, though it may have been unintentional.

Currently, Sony PlayStation has made no official statement regarding backwards compatibility in the upcoming PlayStation 5 in regards to the PS3, 2, or 1. Even their statements regarding PS4 compatibility have been vague and unclear.

Though new information has risen from Ubisoft's support page. According to them, only supported PlayStation 4 titles will offer backwards compatibility, while it would not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 or PlayStation games.

While this by no means is representative of the PlayStation 5 in its entirety, it certainly gives us a framework to make further assumptions on. Is there something about older Ubisoft games that make it not possible, or does the PS5 simply not support the feature? The wording also reinforces the idea that PS4 games will be limited. The only question now is how much so?

This also paints an interesting contrast to the PlayStation's main competition, Xbox. Microsoft has gone on record saying that the XSX will support all games playable on Xbox One, including any and all games for the 360 and original Xbox that the Xbox One supported. While PlayStation has been rather quiet about what they will support.

Sony has been vague about many things with this console generation. The release date is still marked for Holiday 2020, but the official release date and expected price remain unknown. Not that Xbox has been any better about that information.

Well know more soon enough.
