Oh, no?
You don't remember?
I don't blame you if you've forgotten. When Driveclub was released over half a year ago, the game was marred by many unexpected bugs and online congestion issues. Because of that, PS Plus users who looked forward to a free, demo-like version of Driveclub experienced extreme disappointment.
Personally, it earned the top spot in my article "Top 5 Release Blunders of 2014."
So as we put that thought into perspective, developer Evolution Studios and publisher Sony announced that the PS Plus Edition of Driveclub will finally be available tomorrow, June 25.
Woo.
Yes, over half a year later, and the PS Plus Edition is finally happening.
However, the release will be... held back a little bit. To avoid a second overloading disaster, Sony will be disabling the game's online mode and slowly roll the mode out. To quote Sony's reasoning and appreciation:
"We have to take this precaution because Driveclub connectivity is demanding for a multiplayer game, with countless ever-growing social connections across clubs, challenges, multiplayer, and hundreds of thousands of dynamic leaderboards and activity feeds."
"Thank you to everyone who has stood by Driveclub during the past year and for everyone who has accepted the extra wait for the PS Plus Edition and the companion app which will come after. The team at Evolution Studios is working incredibly hard to make Driveclub great for you, to get everyone to have fun racing in clubs and continue the evolution of the game with spectacular updates every month. I can't wait to see all of you enjoying the game online together."
Though I can't argue with the free edition, it still seems to be a little late to release this title, as excitement has surely turned toward upcoming and hyped titles, especially after this year's E3. So if you're still excited for the title, look forward to it being available to download and play offline tomorrow, June 25, for the PlayStation 4.
