Ecco: The Tides of Time was a sequel to the original Ecco, but did you know there was supposed to be a true sequel that was actually cancelled? Well, it was called Ecco the Dolphin II: Setinels of the Universe, and it was set for the Gamecube. Hidden Palace actually released the game as a CDI download, so you can either check it out on an emulator, or you could burn it onto a self-booting disc and play it on the original Dreamcast.

According to the date of the prototype, the game was cancelled after Sega announced that the Dreamcast would be discontinued in 2001. So it seems that the discontinuation of the console caused the game's demise. However, if you check out the build, you'll notice that there is no sound or music, but there is a debug mode available, which allows you to explore multiple levels. I have to say that judging from the screenshots, the game looked amazing, even by today's standards.

Definitely give this a try if you can!
