Of the games we expected to see at Bethesda's E3 press event this year, Prey was not one of them. The 2017 shooter RPG was a smash hit when it released. But until now, our focus was on other things. As it turns out, the company is still dedicated to their intellectual properties. Prey is getting new game modes, new DLC, and even VR.
In an update launching now, Prey will now have three different game modes, Story, New Game Plus, and Survival. It will also be getting a new multiplayer game mode, known as Typhon Hunter.
Typhon Hunter puts players against each other as either a survivor or as a Typhon. They can use the Mimic skill to disguise themselves as regular objects as the humans hunt them down. This is similar to that of the popular Gmod game mode, Prop Hunt.
There will also be VR functionality for Prey. Users can either play Typhon Hunter in VR, or play an unnamed cooperative puzzle mode with other players. More details on that as they become available.
The biggest announcement, however, is the upcoming DLC, Mooncrash. This expansion takes a rogue-like approach to the game. The player has to collect gear and survive in a randomly generated map. If you die, your body remains. You can later find it again, reclaiming its gear. The end goal is to get off the moon. With new weapons (we saw a sweet looking laser sword), new gear, and a new map. this will no doubt be an exciting addition to the game.
