Prey 2 Won't Have Problems on the PC

So claims the Creative Director, anyway.

If you’re a dedicated PC gamer, you’ve probably had just about enough of shoddy PC ports. And who can blame you? So many of last year’s big triple-A games were released on the PC in such incomplete, poorly made messes that it’d be easy to forget that you’re supposed to be the master race. I mean, these games are so badly optimized, even TellTales Batman games had problems on the PC, and that’s literally just a game about pointing and clicking.

Another game with problems on the PC? Arkane’s Dishonored 2. The highly anticipated and okay-ly received stealth game had some pretty serious optimization problems when it was launched for the PC, and had to be patched. Well, you may also be aware that Arkane is the same team who’s set to release Prey 2, and you may or may not be relieved to hear they don’t plan on repeating that mistake.

While talking with Game Informer about the upcoming port, Creative Director Raphael Colantonio had this to say:

“Of course, we are paying double attention to make sure that this time the PC version is really flawless when we ship.”

But how can we trust them after Dishonored 2?

“A bit more Q&A time, also it’s a different engine so the constraints are different. In the case of Dishonored 2 we created a new engine really, even though it’s based on idTech most of it has been redone. The risk is not the same. In the case of Prey we’re using CryEngine and it’s an engine that’s already shipped stuff before. So it’s not the same configuration. But nevertheless we are aware of the problem; we were already but it got us by surprise. This time we’ll be paying more attention for sure.”

Will that mean absolutely no problems? No. But it’s encouraging to know they’re aware of the problem and they’re giving more time for Quality Assurance to check out the nooks and crannies of the hardware. It might not fix everything, but it’s a step in the right direction.

And that’s always good.
