Pointless, considering how many studies have proven theres no connection at all, and how many other nations dont have mass shootings despite the same amount of violent games on their shelves, but sure. If it makes him feel like a big man on campus to call such a meeting, hes within his right as president.
...But heres the awkward thing - apparently, no one in the gaming industry was told about this meeting. At least, as far as the ESA - the biggest gaming lobby in the USA is aware. That hasnt stopped them from making an announcement that goes about like youd expect:
The same video games played in the US are played worldwide; however, the level of gun violence is exponentially higher in the US than in other countries. Numerous authorities have examined the scientific record and found there is no link between media content and real-life violence.
The US video game industry has a long history of partnering with parents and more than 20 years of rating video games through the Entertainment Software Rating Board. We take great steps to provide tools to help players and parents make informed entertainment decisions.
Regardless, the real question is: was the announcement of the presidents meeting just another one of his little lies? Or is he really meeting with someone whom we simply do not know? Time will tell, I suppose.
